Steven C. Thomas, M.D.

In 1984, Dr. Thomas completed medical school and research at Johns Hopkins. Subsequently, he completed five years of orthopedic residency training in Seattle, Washington at the University of Washington and affiliated hospitals.

After the completion of his residency, he stayed on with Dr. Frederick Matsen to continue fellowship training in the surgery of the elbow and shoulder as well as to complete his research in ligament reconstruction and sports-related knee injuries.

Upon completing his additional training, Dr. Thomas pursued a traveling fellowship in arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder injuries.

At the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City, he trained under Dr. Russell Warren, team physician for the New York Giants, among other teams. Subsequently, Dr. Thomas trained with Dr. Stephen Snyder in southern California. Dr. Snyder is thought to be one of the most eminent shoulder arthroscopists of our time.

Dr. Thomas has authored a number of publications in orthopedic literature, including co-authorship of various chapters in significant orthopedic textbooks.

Dr. Thomas’s current practice does not address general orthopedic issues, but rather its focus is on sports injuries and arthroscopic treatment of knee and shoulder issues. He specializes in the treatment of knees and shoulders.

Due to the greater prevalence of knee issues, Dr. Thomas addresses around 15 percent more knee problems than he does shoulders. He has a board certification in orthopedic surgery as well as a subspecialty certificate in orthopedic sports medicine.

Dr. Thomas has undertaken more than 30,000 surgeries to date. He performs all of his surgeries and does not allow residents, fellows, or other surgeons in training to undertake any of his procedures.

 

Gregory T. Bigler, M.D.

Board certified orthopedic surgeon Dr. Bigler is fellowship trained in sports medicine and arthroscopy. Since 1991, he has been practicing in Las Vegas.

Dr. Bigler graduated from medical school from the University of Utah.

He has published several scientific papers while in med school and graduated with honors. He received orthopedic training at the University of Oregon.

After completing his orthopedic training, Dr. Bigler decided to sub-specialize in the expanding area of sports medicine and arthroscopy. Arthroscopy refers to a surgical technique that makes uses of small telescopes and tools to address joint diseases.

At Harvard Medical School at the Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Bigler completed his sports medicine and arthroscopy fellowship. His responsibilities as a sports medicine fellow included assisting in the care of the New England Patriots football team, the Boston Bruins hockey team, and Harvard athletic teams.

Upon completing his fellowship, Dr. Bigler was selected among six physicians nationally to undertake a traveling fellowship where he traveled around the globe learning and teaching orthopedic approaches.

After coming to Las Vegas, Dr. Bigler has been a team physician in the UNLV Athletic Department as well as the CSN teams. He has also served on the San Diego Padres physician staff.

Dr. Bigler is currently an assistant clinical professor at the University of Nevada, School of Medicine. He has also served as the Nevada delegate for the American Orthopedic Society for Sports Medicine.
